
This Billing Prerequisite was created to allow those of you not interested in the Patient Access Certification (PAC) and Patient Access Specialist Certification (PAS) to take the courses required for the Billing Certification.
You will have 6 weeks to complete this 7 hour course.Upon the completion of this course, the learning outcomes for students include:
- Demonstrate improved practices in managing internal and external customers through telephone communication.
- Apply etiquette principles that will help win and keep customers.
- Define the terms: Beneficiary, Subscriber, Guarantor & Payer.
- Review the different types of insurance.
- Assess managed care plans.
- Explain timely filing, EOB and pre-certification/pre-registration.
- Define Managed Care and cite the types of managed care plans.
- Explain how managed care plans fit in to the revenue cycle.
- Summarize the top ten issues of managed care that affect rural hospitals' contract performance.
- Explain why facilities need managed care contracts and the steps to successful contracting.
- Define HIPAA, HIPAA Privacy, HIPAA Security, and PHI.
- Recite the 3 main elements of medical terms.
- Define common medical terms.
- Determine medical terms with different body systems.
- Identify medical abbreviations.
- Define MSP provisions.
- Determine primary payer.
- Recoginize when Medicare is primary payor and when it is secondary.
- Identify what type of insurance is primary to Medicare.
- Define ABN.
- Understand and use the new ABN form.
- Describe the procedure on obtaining an ABN, what services may require an ABN and what the specific billing requirements are when an ABN is issued.
In order to complete this Billing Prerequisite, along with 0.7 CEU/7 credit hours, you must complete all of the required courses listed here and all assignments within each course.
